Our client Donna set a goal of 100 bike commutes to work for 2012. As we enter December she is 8 short of her goal, she wanted to make this goal public for some external motivation so she posted it on our Christmas goal tree in the studio. I am taking it a step further and featuring her goal in this blog post, so give Donna some love and help her reach 100 bike commutes!
I like this goal for 3 reasons:
1. You have to get to work, so why not cycle a few days a week, easy to do also easy not to do. Active transportation is one of the greatest ways to get more activity in your life without having to plan a training session!
2. It is easily trackable. Did you cycle to and from work? That is the only question you have to ask yourself to know whether you are getting closer to your goal or not.
3. It can be broken down into smaller goals. 8-9 commutes a month, or 2 commutes a week. Breaking down your big goals into smaller goals is a great way to measure your progress and make huge changes seem achievable.
I of course like this goal for one more reason it takes another car off the road of the busy streets of Vancouver for 100 days a year. Great for Donna’s heart and lungs and great for the environment. Way to go Donna I know you are going to accomplish what you set out to do!
