VolleyballFor me, there’s nothing like diving into sand on a warm summer’s day. I tend to do that a lot while digging after a volleyball, especially on the beach. Beach volleyball is a terrific sport, especially during the summer. You get to spend time outside in the hot sun enjoying the time with friends and family. Volleyball combines agility, coordination, anticipation, reflex action, explosive power and calmness. Why calmness, when one panics the focus is lost and all the other motor skills become impaired. Volleyball combines a multitude of skills that Stayfitanywhere provides. We utilizes many different movements during our everyday life and when we put it into sports, we get to see the full spectrum of what our bodies are capable of.
Volleyball is also a sport that usually does not require an abundance of equipment, usually just a volleyball a net and a couple of friends. Volleyball can be played in 2’s, 4’s and 6’s. I have played all types, indoors and outdoors. It will be a sport I hope to continue participating in for years to come.
If you’ve never played before or looking for someone to play with, give me a shout! I’m always up for game.

WALL FLATTENER
Wall Flattener Start   Wall Flattener Start

Ah, the wall flattener. It’s one of my favourite exercises not just because of the many benefits for posture, range of motion and flexibility but it is an equipment free exercise. Nothing is required besides a vertical flat surface which means this exercise can be performed virtually anywhere.
A great example is demonstrated by Andrew Burchell above, who presents Stayfitanywhere Health Seminars.
For full instructions of the exercise and a print out, view Wall Flattener Exercise.
Sitting at the computer all day forces your shoulders to rotate inwards towards the center of your chest which results in tight pectoral muscles. If you’re reading post, this would be a perfect time for you to get up out of your seat and perform this exercise for 30 seconds on the wall behind you. Give it shot!
Stay tuned for my next favourite exercise, the Wall Sit.
To see a live demonstration of other equipment free exercises, register for free seminar “Fitness Solutions for Busy People” on June 29th @ 7pm.

Everything in moderation, I’m sure we’ve all heard that. I recently watched a documentary on how doctors, fitness experts, health experts are segregating the fit and the not so fit. We tend to have biased opinions on what we believe is the right way to eat, the right way to keep fit and what everyone should be doing.
But with every negative comment we make on what our clients should eat or how much they should be moving, it actually makes them less motivated. I know that’s the last thing I would want to do.
Of course we all care about our clients, that’s why we are so passionate about their health, but sometimes we need to step back and just because we may not eat a bag of chips once a week or hit the local mcdonalds, doesn’t mean our clients can’t and if they do, doesn’t mean the should feel guilty doing so.
I for one like to indulge in many different things and clients should not feel guilty consuming things they enjoy. Just be knowledgeable of your eating habits. Remember, moderation.

Tired If your work day consists of mainly one position, sitting, this is for you. Some of you may not know, that I use to be one of those individuals. The day would consist of waking up, driving to work, grabbing a coffee and plopping my butt down in a comfy chair infront of a computer screen. Probably exactly what you’re doing right now. Then the rest of my day would consist of getting up a couple of times in the morning to go to a meeting where I would sit again. A lot of times, lunch wasn’t even on my radar and right around 3pm, my brain and body was telling me it was nap time. The last two hours of work just dragged and dragged. If this is you, then keep on reading.
After years and years of repetitiveness, I thought, there must be more to life than going around in a cycle like a gerbil in a wheel. Of course it isn’t feasible for all of us to change careers and find jobs that require more movement and time to eat a sensible lunch. So what kind of solutions are out here? Glad you asked! This is one of the main reason, we at Stayfitanywhere have started to focus more on helping companies create effective and realistic wellness solutions. I have been right where you are, so I come from a decade of the dreaded work life cycle experience.
We want to educate and create custom solutions for the workplace. Since you have to be at work, you should make the best of it, get extra pep in your step, a quick energy boost(not caffeine related), and to relieve stress when ridiculous deadlines become overwhelming.  We at Stayfitanywhere have developed effective educational seminars, delivered during your lunch hour. Why lunch hour? This ensures you actually take a lunch and feed your body as well as feed your mind. See how one lunch and learn energizes the rest of your day. If you don’t believe me, ask some of the companies we’ve helped out, like Ledcor and Discovery Parks. Or better yet, email us at info@stayfitanywhere.com to experience your very own mind opening Lunch and Learn. We know you and your company will benefit, grab our hand, we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Olympics Well it’s been over a week since the Olympics have ended. What a fantastic two weeks it was for me. I attended multiple hockey games, mainly the Canada games. If you’ve never been to an international hockey game with your home country playing, there is nothing else like it. The atmosphere, the energy and anticipation from the time they step on the ice for the warm ups till the final buzzer goes. It’s an experience that is indescribable.
Just imagine all the years these athletes have trained, all the sacrifices, all the excuses they could’ve come up with to not reach their goals, but they were determined and motivated and in the end were on the biggest stage.
Along the way, I’m sure they had plenty of personal trainers and advice and suggestions on what they should be doing. Somewhere along the line it just clicked, hard work pays off!
So every time when you think the extra rep or the extra metre or the extra 10 seconds is just too much or it’s beyond what you’re comfortable with, just remember what these athletes go through and look where they ended up.
Everyone can step up and achieve higher results, dig deep. If you can’t push yourself to go the extra step, we at stayfitanywhere surely can!
What’s your next goal? Set it and get it!

Big Burger I recently had a friend send me a youtube clip.  I honestly wasn’t suprised after viewing it.  The funny thing is, people know better, but yet, a place like this exists for a reason.   However, I’m pretty sure most individuals who go to his joint probably aren’t regulars and probably don’t order the “Quad” burger.  Take a look at the youtube video YouTube. Imagine trying to burn 8000 calories during one workout.  If an average person person burns 1000 calories hiking the Grouse Grind, that would make this a very very long day.  For most of us who don’t consume 8000 calories in one sitting and are still encountering obstacles to shed the excess fat, we have some very easy solutions. They are found in our new eBook, 12 Keys to Fat Loss, a simple guide to weight reduction.  You can find it on our site Free @Stayfitanywhere.com Combine the knowledge of Fat Loss and the knowledge of body awareness with Stayfitanywhere’s Online Personal Training and you will have a complete package to a healthier and active lifestyle. StayfitanywhereI was reading the Vancouver Sun online and came across this article in the Health section.  Of course this is the new year and many of us once again try to get on the fitness bandwagon.  And of course, 80% of the people who have all the intentions of keeping up with a fitness routine, probably won’t make it past March.  The article is ok in my opinion.  It gives tips on how to choose a health club and the number one reason why people don’t go to the gym, the location. Here is the article from the Vancouver Sun

Now after reading the entire article, I have my own opinion.  Gyms which lack focus with their members is probably the main reason why people don’t keep up with their fitness.  The staff who work for the gym should provide accountability for any of their members to have them reach their goal.  I am not against big gyms, heck, I used to work for one and the members were fantastic to train.  Clients who are given extra accountability seem to be the most successful.  When we as trainers, keep tabs on our clients throughout a whole week, like with our Stayfitanywhere Online Training Centre, it ensures a higher success rate in reaching their goals.  Most individuals want to understand what they are doing is correct and in turn also see all their hard work paying off.  Results, that’s what most people want to see. So why not give them the best personal attention, online and in person.

I tend to think, no matter where you go or where you are in the world, if you’re trained properly, are accountable, and see results, you’ll continue doing it. Stayfitanywhere, get educated, get moving, get Fit…Let’s Go!

Brain Power A daily ritual of mine is to peruse new articles and find ones with interesting headings. This one from the Vancouver Sun today caught my attention, Physically active boys tend to be smarter: Study. It was a study on how activity levels can increase congnitive function and development. Although, they were clear to say, they weren’t sure if the smarter boys were just more active or if the fitness activites made them smarter. But it was concluded that cardiovascular exercises do improve cognitive function and development. We’ve even proven it to ourselves, when we manage to tear ourselves away from our work for even 5mins, walk around the office, take deep breaths, it helps refocus and energize us for the next task. Plus, with some of us being in Vancouver, it’s simple for us to take a step outdoors and look at the mountains and ocean which we sometimes take for granted. You don’t need to be personal training, but take a few minutes out of your hectic work day and enjoy what’s around you. If it helps younger kids with clear thinking, don’t you think it’s worth a try?

No ipodI came across another article I found interesting.  It’s not soley about fitness or personal training or online personal training but more about technology and how we’re addicted.  With virtually everyone in a developed nation hooked to the hip with a digital device like a blackberry, iphone and the need to facebook, myspace and twitter, can we really live without it?  Don’t get me wrong, I’m an advid techy, looking for the latest and greatest gadget and how it can used to improve our online personal training system and jazz up our future personal training studio. But are we so addicted we feel we can’t live without our devices being on 24hrs a day.  Take a test, try not being a slave to your device or a social networking site.  You’ll find you have a bit more time to focus on your own health and fitness.  Everytime you feel the urge to twitter about your last coffee outing, stop, drop and do 5 pushups.  Imagine if you replaced some of the wasted time on these sites and texting with a few stretches or body weight exercises, you’d be fit as a fiddle…give it a try. You can view the article at www.vancouversun.com.

Well, this is a different blog subject but found it interesting so I’m going to share. I just came across an article about an eating disorder.  Despite all the education, anorexia is still one of the top issues which surrounds the health and fitness industry.   It once was mainly known as an eating disorder for women but now there is a new term for males, “Manorexia”.  Not sure why they decided to call it something different when it is the same problem.  Now finally there has been some attention which is focused on males and the eating disorder. Here is the article http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2009/11/09/11689601-cp.html.
